Now we all know the classic story behind the man who is known to be faster than a speeding bullet, but do you know what the “S” on Super Man’s chest actually means? If you guessed SUPER MAN, well, you are wrong. The creatives involved in the character design of the famous costume decided to add their own twist in the script regarding Clark’s crest, and as it turns out it means something “S”weet and “S”incere. OK…enough with the “S”s.

Answer: It stands for HOPE.

According to the folks at costume design, the story behind the new meaning of the symbol is something adapted from olden times when dynasties wore crests on just about everything to flash their military ranks or family pride. So, you might want to think twice before putting on that vintage Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles T-shirt, apparently symbols on chests mean more than just endorsements. Turtle Power!

Also added to the “Changes in Costume” list is Super Man’s underwear.

Dating back to olden times, specifically the Victorian Era, the famous¬†Strong Man¬†concept of wearing leotards or “underwear ” as outerwear came from the circus days when strong men or SUPER men exhibited their bodies and strengths in front of fascinated audiences. The cotton red briefs have since been 86-ed from the latest Man Of Steel movie leaving Kal-El with a modern alien-like skin suit. One of the things that still remains true to tradition is the cape.

MAN OF STEEL is playing now in theaters, so be sure to head out your local cinema and leave us your feedback on the movie.
